Seventeen-year-old Grace grows up knowing she’s different, but she always attributed it to a mother who didn’t want her, a father who abandoned her, and a curse that sets her apart. Despite those struggles, her grandfather remained her rock and confidant. Her life shatters irrevocably after he suddenly dies.
The day of his funeral sets off a chain of events, making Grace question everything she’s ever known to be true, and as a result, who she can truly trust. She inherits his house, part of his money, his Guardian and something that ties them together.
Just before Grace’s 18th birthday, she is thrust into a world she couldn’t fathom existed, and does everything she can to thwart the destiny suddenly forced upon her. She’s been chosen for greatness, but at what cost? With eyes now open, she must choose to either be Chosen, or watch those around her suffer the consequences.
Torn between the man who’s come to protect her and the one sent to destroy her, she teeters on the edge of decision trying to come to grips with who she is, what she wants, and what all of that means for her, those she loves, and the rest of mankind.
What more does one say after giving a review 5 stars. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait until the next one.
Grace alone grieving the death of the only one who ever loved her and understood her, mourns over the death of her grandfather while watching the vultures the so called family members pretend to be distraught at his passing but knowing how they truly felt about him angers her. Just when she thinks she is forever alone in comes the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on. Quentin her grandfathers attorney brings her something from her grandfather and before leaving the room tells her he will always be there for her. She soon learns just how very true those few words are.
All her life she wished her mother would have been a mother, wished her father had not left them, wished for love, then her grandfather passes away and her entire world is turned upside down and before she knows it she has learned that everything she thought she knew and believed was so completely wrong. Trying to deal with this new life, new guys coming into her life, some completely taking her senses and emotions for rollercoaster rides, friends who have struggles of their own and her need to help, she is also trying to manage her own emotional ride.
When mysterious bad boy handsome Darius comes into the picture what she thought might be there with Quentin is shattered and she is confused but at the same time thrilled that Darius seems to really like her and as their relationship grows what was there with Quentin falls further and further away.
When her friends are in a serious accident and she realizes its because of her they almost died she finally allows Quentin to train her to prepare her to be ready, ready for the day he may not be there even though he always promised he would protect her. Through all this Grace learns that a lot has been kept from her, as she battles the emotions from this and trying to understand why people didn’t trust her enough she is angry at everyone. Until she learns what it might possibly cost by having told her.
Much of Grace’s life in this book is like a normal teenagers ups and downs with girlfriends, boys and dating and partying, strife with parents and other family members. But Grace isn’t a normal teenager being the daughter of a nephilim makes her special in itself, being chosen makes her wanted. When she learns one she thought she could trust was fallen and those she thought she couldn’t trust could be it may be too late. Or is it…..
Don’t wait to get this book….. And don’t be upset if you lose sleep because you just can not put this book down. By far one of the best YA Paranormal Romance books that I have read. Great Job K Anne Raines
