I read this book first not realizing it was book 2 in the series – so I am reviewing the book based on it as if it were a stand alone – come back later for my review of book 1.

I can’t imagine a world with more than one race living in it other than humans. I know there are people that believe in aliens, I have always had the “if I see it I will believe it” mentality. But in Broken Gates they share earth with dragons and the feared and dreaded raiders. What is really cool though is their lives are just like ours. Love, hurt, joy, sadness, turmoil, drama and more drama.

The Raiders have invaded the world of the humans and dragons and slowly trying to take over and this is threatening the world of the dragons.

Paige is going through some very tumultuous times right now as she learns of huge changes in her life, all while being pulled in two directions. She continues to have these visions of a woman and a man. The man apparently deeply in love with the woman, and the woman saddened by a quest the man completed at her request. But there is a twist – there is always a twist. Paige has to find this woman, its important to her, for her future, her destiny and that of her fellow dragons. With the help of some friends she sets out to do just that.

After finding this woman and learning of her destiny and who she really is she then sets out on her own following directions from the woman she found in order to try and save her people from the raiders. Many things happen along the way which really have Paige going through so many roller coaster type emotions. But she learns through it all to be strong and rely on herself and not others.

There is absolutely no slowing down in this book or for Paige. She is thrown into so many directions. Torn between a deep and passionate love for one man and a close bond and love to another man. Who will she choose, the outcome of something between all three will be her decision. She has a tough path ahead of her and I couldn’t even imagine being in her shoes but man am I impressed how she chooses and the outcome of her choice.

This isn’t my normal type of book to read but I really am glad I chose to read it. I loved the pull between Kohl and Bryn with Paige in the middle. But the ending wow talk about a shocker so not what I was expecting I was crying and now I can’t wait for book three in the trilogy.

I bit my lip with worry. “Are you sure you feel okay? I mean Drake was poisoning you. I think that maybe we should have Khol use his healing powers on you or something.” Would Khol have to touch Bryn, kiss him? That would be veeerry interesting, I smirked to myself.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Bryn growled low. “Khol’s done enough. I’ll be fine. The poison will pass out of my system. Besides” – and he grinned at me mischievously – “I can think of plenty of ways to work it out of my body and none of them require anyone but you.”

I chose to ignore his remark about Khol and laughed. “That doesn’t even make sense, Bryn. I’m going to label that innuendo as failed.”

“It’s not failed because you got what I was going for,” Bryn protested with false idignance.

“Yeah, okay, whatever.” I rolled my eyes at him as I turned to leave the room. It felt so good – beyond good – to be able to talk to Bryn like this again. I’d missed him so much. He might be more, but he was still my best friend – my best friend with tons of extra benefits. “By the way” – I stopped and met Bryn’s gaze with narrowed eyes – “If you ever try to leave me again.” I paused for dramatic effect. “I’ll more than just slap you.” I don’t know why I felt the need to tell him that at that moment, but I did. Maybe on some level I felt most things we could move on and not talk about…bury our heads in the sand…but not that.

Bryn gave me a tight-lipped smile. “We’re mated now. Nothing to worry about.”

I bared my teeth at him, feeling every bit the full-blooded dragon that I was. “If something happens – like before – if you walk away from me – you’ll regret it.”

Bryn’s brows furrowed together as he studied me. “Are you threatening me, Peej?”

“Yeah, I guess I am.”

Bryn’s full lips turned up slightly at the corners showcasing his dimples. “I wonder if it’s the whole being mated thing, but I kind of think it’s hot, how you’re reacting to the thought of me leaving.”

“I quirked one bemused eyebrow at him. “Seriously?”

“Yeah.” his eyes darkened to show the sudden heat in them that was burning for me. “I know I was stupid Peej – beyond stupid. But you know I did it all out of love for you.”

I flicked my gaze to the floor, not wanting to get caught in the magnetic pull of his sea storm eyes. “That almost makes it worse,” I mumbled.
